Liam Sullivan on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA ("The Gun on Ice Planet Zero")

The late Liam Sullivan (1923 - 1998) **almost** guest-starred in Battlestar Galactica ("The Gun on Ice Planet Zero").  Bits and pieces of his (unnamed) character can be seen in the Deleted Scenes for this episode on both the DVD and Blu-Ray releases.  Sullivan plays an elderly clone, roughly the same age as Dr. Ravashol and is the leader of a Clone Council.  Apollo meets with the Clone Council and asks for their help to destroy the pulsar.  In a later scene, Sullivan's character is shown conspiring with the Cylons.  All of Sullivan's scenes from this episode were Deleted - he can be seen in a crowd scene at the end of Part 2 as the warriors say their goodbyes but he doesn't have any dialogue.

Is there a reference to THE STARLOST on BATTLESTAR GALACTICA?

The Starlost (1973 - 74)

There is an interesting line of dialogue in Part 2 of the Battlestar Galactica episode ("The Gun on Ice Planet Zero").  Leda (guest-star Christine Belford) says - ("We can find another planet.  Starlos isn't far.  We can pick up food and water, and fuel.").  Could the planet "Starlos" be an in-joke referring to the 1973 - 74 sci-fi / space adventure TV series The Starlost?

CYLON...Battlestars?

Battlestar Galactica ("The Gun on Ice Planet Zero")
 - aired on 10/22/78 and 10/29/78 

The Battlestar Galactica two-part story "The Gun on Ice Planet Zero" is a rip-roaring, action-packed entry in BSG lore.  This was the very first story developed for the series which probably accounts for an interesting verbal "blooper" - repeated 3 times throughout this story!

A Cylon Base Star (a.k.a. base ship)

It had been established in previous episodes, that the formidable Cylon command base (often shown in packs of three) is called a "Base Star" (or base ship).  For some reason - and for this story only - Adama, Apollo and Athena refer to Cylon Base Stars as CYLON BATTLESTAR(s).  This sounds very odd - and comes off even worse when the DVD Subtitles are activated.  Some photos below:

Adama: ("We've picked up CYLON BATTLESTARS
approaching....")

Apollo: ("...until the CYLON BATTLESTARS
can reach and destroy it.")

Athena: ("...but CYLON BATTLESTARS
are entering the quadrant.")

 ...but all is not lost!  Towards the end of Part 2, Rigel (and the writers!) **suddenly** remember the proper name - Cylon BASE STAR(s)!:

Rigel: ("Cylon BASE STARS, quadrant Epsilon.")
